“Landscapes of Diversity: Mapping and understanding the drivers of genetic diversity across space.”

Anusha studies genetic diversity and the ecological and evolutionary processes that shape its distribution across landscapes. Genetic diversity is crucial for population health and adaptation, and understanding its drivers is key for assessing species’ vulnerability to environmental change. In her research, Anusha builds and applies computational tools for studying genetic variation and works with the California Conservation Genomics Project to inform the conservation of 100+ species across California.

ABSTRACT

Widespread and rapid environmental change poses one of the biggest threats to biodiversity globally. Determining which factors shape the evolutionary responses of species and populations to climate change, habitat destruction, and other stressors is critical for conservation. Anusha studies the processes that structure genetic diversity across landscapes and how this may impact species vulnerability to environmental change. Her work involves building and applying tools for understanding patterns of genomic variation, connectivity, and adaptation. As part of the California Conservation Genomics Project, Anusha is harnessing the largest multispecies genomic dataset ever assembled to inform the conservation of biodiversity across the state and to determine the fundamental drivers of genetic diversity across the tree of life.
