“Advanced Power Converter Design for Future Electric Aircraft”

The future of transportation is electric. For automobiles, planes, trains, and the growing segment of single-person vehicles, gasoline is quickly becoming obsolete. Our group is developing the next generation of power electronics, which take energy from batteries and use it to power motors. Through the use of novel materials, circuit designs, and manufacturing techniques, we have pushed the boundaries and created systems which are an order of magnitude smaller, more lightweight, and more efficient than the current state of the art. My work is specifically focused on enabling commercial electric air travel in the next decade. I have developed novel multi-level power converter designs comprising multiple circuit boards, each of which contain optimized components, to achieve both high power-density and high efficiency.
